Carnival has its official name is ''Entrudo'', a celebration held in Brazil, more specifically in Rio de Janeiro, is one of the most famous and exciting.Undoubtedly, the carnival of Rio de Janeiro is known by all and the destination of choice for many to celebrate this date. Carnival is a celebration held the global level and in this current year 2012, takes place on February 21.
At this point there are many carnival balls and parades in which people have to adopt certain costumes and personalities is often used as the saying is'' Carnival'' nobody takes this the wrong way.
The carnival had its origin in Greece, around the years 600-520 BC and was through this festival that the Greeks performed their worship of the gods in thanks fertelidade, soil and production. In the year 590 after Criste the Catholic church has adopted this celebration, with a period governed by the lunar year celebrations of Christianity in the Middle Ages. The period of carnival was essentially marked by the'' goodbye'' to the flesh that comes from the Latin'' valley'' carnis thus giving rise to the term used today'' Carnival.'' Carnis means flesh and valle means pleasure. During the period of the carnival there inumerosos festivals and every city, land, or village celebrated and played according to their customs. The latest Carnival, is now known as is done in parades and processions, the carnival is modern Victorian home of the 19th century.
The city of Paris was the main originator of the carnival party which led to several cities such as Nice, New Orleans, Toronto and Rio de Janeiro Carnival in Paris to inspire. However the state of Rio de Janeiro created his own style of making Mardi Gras parades of samba schools, received even to the guinness book as the biggest carnival in the world.
History and origin
The carnival party emerged from implanting in the 11th century, the Catholic Church for Holy Week, this week it is preceded by forty days of fasting which is known as Lent, the period of Lent so would encourage the meeting of the various festivitiesantecidiam days to Wednesday ash, also known as the first day of Lent.
Usually the carnival lasts for three days prior to Ash Wednesday, or the beginning of Lent, unlike the meaning of Lent is a time of penance and deprivation, these three days of Carnival are called'' fat days '' especially Tuesday, also known as Tuesday fat.
The carnival of antiquity was marked by great feasts where they ate, drank and engaged in joyful celebrations and relentless pursuit of pleasures. Carnival dragged on for seven days in the streets, squares and houses of ancient Rome, 17-23 December. All activities and business was suspended during this period, slaves gained temporary freedom to do what they wanted and in the moral constraints were relaxed. People exchanged gifts, a king was elected by a game and led the procession through the streets.
During the Renaissance festivals that happened in the days of carnival incorporated the masquerade, with its rich costumes and floats. The character of a popular festival and disorganized joined other types of celebration and the party was increasingly taking the current format.
Calculating the day of the Carnival
All ecclesiastical holidays are calculated according to the date of Easter [6], except Christmas. As Easter Sunday occurs on the first Sunday after the first full moon is seen from the spring equinox (northern hemisphere) or Autumn Equinox (Southern Hemisphere), and Friday of the Passion is the one that precedes the Easter Sunday, then Tuesday Carnival occurs 47 days before Easter.

The Carnival takes place 47 days before Easter, in February, usually in March or, as the calculation of Easter, and a curiosity: the Carnival occurs near or on the day of New Moon.
